Soaring to new heights in land services
The DJI Phantom 3 Professional
At SunCoast, we’ve always been committed to staying at the forefront of land services technology. This helps us provide the most complete and accurate land services to our clients. It also allows us to invest in some of the most cutting-edge and, frankly, coolest technology available. Yes, SunCoast Land Services now has a drone. The DJI Phantom 3 Professional Drone, to be precise. More on the machine on a bit.
What we want to talk about first is how we’re using our drone to optimize our capabilities in explorations & production as well as rights-of-way. With our drone we can maximize our efficiency while also helping to reduce costs to our clients. Here’s how we are accomplishing this.
Explorations and production with a drone
Our new drone technology will allow us to make our drill site determination process quicker, safer and more cost-efficient. Using our drone we can review possible site locations without actually traversing these locations. This limits the access we require and therefore reduces the chance of associated damages and limits related liability.
Our drone offers even more added protection in explorations and production by providing video capture of selected drill sites before and after with date and time stamps in order to archive operations and surface related damages. Archived drone footage also provides definitive proof of operations footprint and damages related to operations incurred through surface work/ingress/egress, and will allow us to rebut damage claimed to roadways, livestock, crops, fences, structures, access points and so on.
In short: say goodbye to unsubstantiated damage claims thanks to drone-provided definitive proof.
Right-of-way with a drone
Our drone is also a major time and cost-saver for ROW. In addition to limiting the need to physically access site locations or helping to better determine less obtrusive points of access, we can use our drone as a video aid in ROW feasibility study and the determination of route selection. It’s also valuable for ROW maintenance, allowing us to fly ROW routes for surface encumbrances, structures, trees and so on and can be used in installation, reinstallation, and maintenance of existing ROW.
Similar to explorations and production, drone technology will also allow us to take time and date-stamped before and after images in order to provide definitive proof that can be used to fight unsubstantiated damage claims.

A closer look at the Phantom 3 Professional’s camera
The Phantom 3 Professional’s imaging benefits from the f/2.8 lens with a 94⁰ field of view. This is a lens that was specifically built to shoot from the air, virtually eliminating unwanted lens distortion that has so far been typical for drone imaging.
Another great feature of the Phantom 3 Professional is DJI’s industry-standard gimbal stabilization technology. This technology holds the camera perfectly stable regardless of the drone’s flight path. This 3-axis gimbal makes complex shots as well as long exposure photos easy and guarantees smooth, stable footage.
